Advantages of IPTG:

1. Molecules that can induce enzyme synthesis but are not catabolized are called placebo inducers. Since lactose can induce the synthesis of enzymes but is subsequently broken down, generating many complex kinetic problems, people often use comfort inducers to perform various experiments.

2. IPTG is not metabolized by the bacterium, it is a lactose analogue, and once it enters the cell, it produces a continuous and long-lasting induction effect, so the induction efficiency of IPTG is high, and often only a very small amount (1mmol/L) is needed to achieve the desired induction effect. Since IPTG is not metabolized, it induces the expression of exogenous proteins intracellularly and exclusively. It is not affected by cellular metabolism and the induction effect is sustained and stable. Lactose has a dual effect and can be used as both a precursor substance of inducer isolactose and a carbon source, which is very unstable during the induction process. IPTG is suitable for experimental research because of its excellent stability.

3. IPTG can be effectively copied in the absence of lacY gene.

4. Oxygen is replaced by sulfur in the galactosidic bond, and hydrolytic activity is lost, but thiogalactoside and homologous oxo compounds have the same affinity with the enzyme site. IPTG is not recognized by β-galactosidase, but it is a very effective inducer of lac gene cluster.
