Diosmin was first isolated from Scrophularia nodosa in 1925 and was first used as a therapeutic drug in 1962. In Europe, diosmin has been used as a vascular protective agent and a therapeutic agent for chronic venous diseases for more than 30 years. Diosmin can be of natural origin or obtained from the natural product hesperidin via a semi-synthetic method. Diosmin is a typical flavonoid compound, currently mostly hesperidin is produced by dehydrogenation of iodine in one step.
