N-[2-[4-(Aminosulfonyl)phenyl]ethyl]-acetamide is used in the synthesis of sulfonylurea and thiourea derivatives substituted with benzenesulfonamide groups that can be used as potential hypoglycemic agents. It is an important intermediate for the synthesis of sulfonylurea drugs glibenclamide and glipizide. These two drugs are a new generation of sulfonylurea drugs for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Also used as dye intermediates.
