4-pentoxy biphenylboronic acid can be used as an intermediate for pharmaceutical synthesis. For example, it can be used in the preparation of Anidulafungin, a derivative of amphotericin B. Anidulafungin is a third generation of echinomycin semi-synthetic antifungal drug developed by Chemicalbook of Vicuron Pharmaceutical Company. The product, called Eaxis, was approved in the United States in 2006. Compared with other echinomycin antifungal agents, Anifennet has a larger distribution volume and a wider antibacterial activity spectrum.
