2-bromo-5-chloropyridine is an organic intermediate, a colorless solid, which can be prepared from 2-amino-5-chloropyridine by diazotization reaction or 2, 5-dichloropyridine by hydrogen bromide substitution. Bromine (18.0 mL, 353.7mmol) was slowly added to a solution of 2-amino-5-chloropyridine (15.0g, 116.7mmol) in 47% aq. hBr (75.0 mL) at -10℃. An aqueous solution of NaNO2(28.1g, 4chemicalbook073.3mmol) was slowly added to it. The mixture was stirred at -10 to -5 ° C for 1h and then at 5 ° C for 1h. The mixture was neutralized with 5MNaOH aqueous solution when the temperature was maintained below 25℃. The precipitates were filtered out and recrystallized with pentane to obtain 2-bromo-5-chloropyridine.
