It is an intermediate of Meropenem.Meropenem is another semi-synthetic carbapenem antibiotic for parenteral administration following the marketing of imipenem and Cilastatin in the United States. Through its covalent bond with penicillin-junction synthons (PBPs) involved in cell wall synthesis, it inhibits the synthesis of bacterial cell wall and thus plays an antibacterial role. It is sensitive to both gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, and has strong antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria.
