Uses:

Using glucose, peptone, and yeast powder as raw materials, wet bacterial cells were fermented and expressed by Escherichia coli. Then, crude keratin was obtained by breaking the bacteria and centrifuging. After column purification (adding sodium chloride, cysteine, sodium hydroxide, and glycine as protective agents during the purification process), keratin products with a purity of over 95% were obtained.

 

Keratin contains short peptide sequences with cell adhesion properties. The commercial potential of keratin based biomaterials in biomedical applications is often used to manufacture biomembranes, food, cosmetics, sponge injectable gel and drug delivery. Keratin is widely used in various biomaterials due to its excellent biocompatibility, degradability, and ability to promote cell adhesion and proliferation.
