Omeprazole (trade name Losec) is a novel proton pump inhibitor (PPI) anti-ulcer drug marketed by Astra Pharmaceuticals, Inc. of Sweden in 1988. Omeprazole is a 1:1 mixture of R-type and S-type optical isomers, and its S-type optical isomer, esomeprazole.
