Application
lemborexant is a dual inhibitor of the hormone receptors OX1 and OX2, discovered and developed internally by Eisai. The compound inhibits orexin by competitively binding to 2 subtypes of orexin receptors (orexin receptor 1 and receptor 2).
Emborexant interferes with orexin neurotransmission and purposefully promotes the initiation and maintenance of sleep. Eisai is currently working with Purdue to develop lemborexant for the treatment of multiple sleep disorders.
