Decaborane, also called decaborane(14), is the borane with the chemical formula B10H14. This white crystalline compound is one of the principal boron hydride clusters, both as a reference structure and as a precursor to other boron hydrides. It is toxic and volatile, with a chocolate-like odor. Nido-decaborane, the white crystalline compound, is one of the principal boron hydride clusters, both as a reference structure and as a precursor to other boron hydrides. On its own, Decaborane is able to undergo reduction via acetate as a neat liquid. Decaborane is used as a fuel for aneutronic fusion. It is also used in the preparation of vinyl decaborane as well as in the preparation of semiconductors that have low energy ion implantation. It is widely used in rocket propellants and serves as a catalyst in olefin polymerization reactions. It is a reactant for the preparation of carborane-conjugated quinoline carboxamide ligands of translocator protein for boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT).
