There are nine isomeric forms of inositol (myo-inositol or mesoinositol or specifically the cis-1,2,3,5-trans-4,6- hexahydroxycyclohexane has vitamin activity).Cyclohexane-1,2,3,4,5,6-hexol is used in emollients for its ability to hold and retain moisture, it belongs to the vitamin B family. Although found naturally in plant and animal tissue, for commercial use it is isolated from corn.
