Oxalamine was prepared by n-alkylation of 2-bromopropane with o-acetaniline and direct acylation with chloroacetic acid and phosphorus trichloride. It is a pre-seedling selective herbicide with good effect on gramineae weeds and some broad-leaved weeds. O-acetaniline is also a raw material for chloramines and the insecticide ethyl chlorphenamidine. In the dyestuff industry, this product can be used to manufacture sulphide fast blue.
