Desflurane is similar to isoflurane (CHF2-O-ChCl-CF3) in that both are halogenated compounds of methyl ethane except that chlorine is replaced by fluorine in the α -ethyl part. Halogenation of fluorine reduces the solubility of blood and tissues, changes the boiling point, vapor pressure and stability of desflurane, and enhances its molecular stability and anti-biodegradation and anti-alkaline degradation. An inhaled anesthetic that can induce and recover quickly and has a lower anesthetic effect than other halogenates. Used in anesthesia.
