Propanoic acid, or cysteine, has a sulfur-containing amino acid at position two and a sulfanyl group at position three. It performs the function of a basic metabolite. It is an alpha-amino acid, polar amino acid, and amino acid that contains sulfur. There is a sulfanylmethyl group in it. It is a conjugate base of a cysteinium. It is a cysteinate(1-) conjugate acid. It is a cysteine zwitterion's tautomer.
